An unusual view of Penzance. In a time before automobiles, Garstin positioned himself on what was then the main road, the A30. Horses and carts drive up and down. To the left of the column on the Market Building, he could just see the statue of Sir Humphry Davy (1778-1829) perhaps the most eminent son of the town. This celebration of the renowned scientist was erected in 1872.
We can see that the terrace is busy, perhaps it is market day.
