It is said that the causeway to the Mount is ‘paved with the sins of Cornishmen’ through absolution being giving by the Benedictine monks who occupied the Mount in the 12th century.
This work was likely painted in the mid 1870s and depicts a busy harbour filled with fishing and trading vessels. Note the proliferation of buildings upon the Mount at this time.
